About the university

The University of La Rioja (UR) is located on a modern campus in Logroño, capital of La Rioja, where 7,500 students are registered on courses in 26 undergraduate programs, Doctorates, Masters and other postgraduate courses.

The UR is the only University in this small region in Northern Spain. La Rioja is where the Monasteries of San Millán de la Cogolla, cradle of the first words written in the Spanish language, are situated, sites included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1996. The UR was founded in 1992 and, as a centre devoted to Higher Education, research and cultural promotion.

The size of the campus, occupying an area of 200,000 m2, guarantees an atmosphere of personal treatment and cultural immersion which is ideal for learning Spanish as a Foreign Language. The students study in small groups.

All the buildings of the University of La Rioja are grouped together on a single campus. At its heart, a stone’s throw from each building, is the UR Library. Rated as one of the five best university libraries in Spain, it has a stock of 200,000 books and also on-line services via Internet: DIALNET is the most important data base of scientific articles in Spanish.

The University of La Rioja campus is on a short distance from the centre of Logroño (capital of La Rioja), with a metropolitan area of 150,000 inhabitants.
