Conference Scope
Since the awakening of musicology as discipline in the late-19th century, research has mainly focused on historical and analytical aspects. Such an approach assumed that musical works could be directly identified with the score written by the composer. Musicologists have only recently realized that the study of music should also involve its sounding dimension. This shift places performance at the very centre of the debate, acknowledging that the act of performing does not just mean to play pitch and time as prescribed by the score. On the contrary, performance is a creative process in which the score is only a sketch, an outline of the musical work. Focusing on 18th-century Iberian repertoire, this conference aims at promoting the consideration of music as performance.

Keynote speaker will be Professor Herman Danuser (Humboldt Universität, Berlin) with a conference entitled "Ejecutar - Interpretar - Tocar. Maneras de hablar de la interpretación musical". During the conference, 20-minute concerts with little-known Iberian repertoire of this period will be performed.

The official languages of the conference are English, Spanish and Catalonian.

The following instruments will be available during the sessions for the active participants provided by the organization:
