Hyperadaptation in sound-change
Fonética y Fonología
All languages are considered to share some general
features as they are conventional and arbitrary, systematic,
redundant, and prone to change. In this fashion, we
will center on language change, specifically in what
is meant by hyperadaptation. Before focusing on its
origin and main characteristics, general remarks about
the sound system will be explained so that it can help
us to understand such phenomenon in full; in addition,
a real example will be provided. All in all, the aim
of this paper is to supply a description of hyperadaptation
and its implications with respect to sound-change.
